Consistency between target market and product
The Consumer (Secured) Asset Loan is designed to suit consumers with reasonable banking conduct who require access to funds to purchase a motor vehicle. The loan is designed to complement the asset type being financed and the circumstances of the consumers.
Consumers in the target market are those looking for a fixed rate of interest and who intend to remain in the loan for a reasonable period or who are willing to pay an early termination fee. Those in the target market are unlikely to have sufficient savings to purchase a motor vehicle outright yet have sufficient regular income to service a loan. The fixed interest rate provides certainty of repayment amounts, which is appropriate for consumers on regular income who need predictability in their budgeting. The range of repayment frequencies (weekly or fortnightly) allows consumers to align repayments with their income cycle, reducing the risk of payment default. The loan term range of 36 to 60 months is designed to balance repayment affordability with total interest cost, giving consumers flexibility to select a term consistent with their financial capacity. The risk classification framework (Bronze through Diamond) enables Alpha Finance to appropriately price risk and extend credit to a broad range of consumers, including those with prior credit impairment, while maintaining responsible lending standards. Fee transparency, including the disclosure of monthly account fees and early repayment fees, ensures consumers can make informed decisions before entering the product. Overall, the product is reasonably likely to result in good consumer outcomes for those within the target market, by providing access to vehicle finance that is appropriately structured for their financial situation and repayment capacity.
Distribution outcome framework
The following framework is provided to assist distributors in assessing whether a consumer is likely to be within, outside, or on the border of the target market for this product.
Likely consistent with target market. Consumer is 18 years or older; is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holds a visa with remaining term equal to or exceeding the loan term; has a credit file of 3 or more years; has no unpaid defaults of 3 months or greater; has regular verifiable income sufficient to service the loan; seeks finance between $10,000 and $25,000 solely to purchase a motor vehicle; prefers a fixed interest rate; and intends to hold the loan to or near its maturity.
May be consistent with target market (border cases). Consumer meets most eligibility criteria but has minor prior credit impairment that falls within an approved risk class; or has a credit file of less than 3 years but has otherwise demonstrated consistent repayment behavior; or is considering early repayment and has been clearly informed of the early repayment fee and confirmed acceptance. Distributors should exercise additional care and document the basis for proceeding in these cases.
Likely inconsistent with target market. Consumer is under 18 years of age; is not an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible visa holder; requires finance for a purpose other than purchasing a motor vehicle; has unpaid defaults of 3 months or greater on their credit report; has poor bank account conduct; displays short-term cash lending activity; intends to repay early and does not accept the early repayment fee; or cannot demonstrate capacity to service the loan. Distributors must not proceed with applications in these circumstances.
